Unión Mezcal is an organization devoted to helping Zapotec families from the mountains of Oaxaca via a fair trade business model. Started by a group of young people from Mexico City, they founded Mezcal Unión on four pillars: respect for artisanal practices; sustainable cultivation of agave; quality and wellbeing of their farmers/distillers; and the economic and social development of the community they work with. Their flagship blend is distilled by Pédro Hernandez in San Baltazar Guelavila and is a blend of Espadin and Cirial and supports traditional agave farmers across the area. Extremely mellow and easy drinking without sacrificing any of the agave flavor, this is one of the most approachable and affordable mezcals on the shelf.

Mezcal Unión Uno, crafted with a blend of Espadín and Cirial agaves matured for between 6 and 14 years, features balanced, smoky notes with delicate citrus.

When enjoying neat, it goes well with an orange slice and worm salt, as is the traditional way of sipping mezcal.
